Fit Right - Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA
Independent running retailer Fit Right puts on an annual series of eight First Thursday Urban Adventure Runs. All Urban Adventure runs begin at the specialty running and walking store’s Portland location and are free to the public. The events take on a festive atmosphere with a DJ spinning tunes and free beverages* offered from Widmer Brothers Brewing.
“We are really proud to offer this fun, free community-building activity to running and walking enthusiasts in Portland,” says Dave Sobolik, Founder of Fit Right. “The scavenger hunt-style runs make the experience a little different and a lot of fun. We send participants to various businesses around the city to collect raffle tickets, and our awesome sponsors donate great prizes. It has been a great way for us to support the surrounding local businesses.”
“We chose to be a part of the First Thursday Runs because it is an event that promotes well-being throughout the community, “says Dr. Travis Gerhart of Shephard Chiropractic Clinic. “Runners, both novice and advanced, can enjoy activity together in a community environment. The vendors that attend offer product information and health education to reduce injury and promote a healthy active lifestyle. The underlying tones of the event are congruent with our clinic's objective: to promote health and pain-free living.”
Adidas was the title sponsor for March, donating thousands of dollars in prizes including shoes, apparel, water bottles, accessories and more. Adidas was onsite-encouraging runners to trade in their sneakers for a no obligation test run of a new pair of Adidas running shoes! This is a great way for us to support our various vendors. We usually have 3-5 additional sponsors at each run.
“What I love about these races,” says Kim Lester, a long-time Urban Adventure Run participant and Fit Right customer, “is that they are not ‘races’ in the traditional sense. But, the spirit of competition always works its way into the events as participants try to find the best routes, and collect the most raffle tickets. I can’t wait to run again this year!”
Co-owner of Fit Right, Robb Finegan, adds: “Providing the running community with resources and activities beyond the four walls of our store is one of our core missions. Last year we had over 500 participants at every run, which tells us that we’re serving the public in a meaningful and entertaining way. In fact, this year we anticipate the same attendance, if not more.”
Founded in 2000, locally owned and operated, Fit Right is one of the most well known running and walking specialty retailers in the United States. Just last year alone they sponsored 80+ local runs, additionally, they are the primary run specialty sponsor for the world renowned Hood to Coast Relay. Fit Right understands the importance of supporting their local community through sponsorships and activities that involve and impact surrounding businesses and residents.
